M.J. Smith has been a band-member, a janitor, a bartender, a baker, and always a writer. She earned a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A from Longwood University. Her full-time career is in HealthTech, where she works with physicians, health systems, and hospitals to ensure that they are deploying FDA-cleared AI-trained software to aid in the early detection of breast cancer.
In 2012 she self-published Expecting: A Novel under the pen name, Lula Belle. As Lula Belle, her work has been featured on Feminist.com and On The Issues.com.
